PM modi: India and Pakistan have been full members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) since 2017.
At the latest SCO summit, held virtually and chaired by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a strong message was sent against terrorism.

In the presence of Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, President Xi Jinping of China, and President Vladimir Putin of Russia, PM Modi called for decisive action to counter terrorism and its financing. He urged the SCO to not hesitate to criticize nations that use terrorism as part of their state policy. The summit also addressed other global issues, such as the food, fuel, and fertilizer crisis and the situation in Afghanistan.

PM Modi noted that the SCO is a key platform for peace, prosperity, and development in Eurasia. India has taken an active role in strengthening the SCO by proposing five pillars of cooperation: start-ups and innovation, traditional medicine, youth empowerment, digital inclusion, and shared Buddhist heritage.
This year, India has assumed the presidency of the SCO, and PM Modi has welcomed the addition of Iran as a new member. He has also welcomed Belarus’ signing of the Memorandum of Obligation for the SCO membership. India looks to further deepen people-to-people ties with Eurasia, drawing upon its ancient cultural and political connections.

As president of the SCO this year, Prime Minister Modi welcomed Iran as a new member and the signing of the Memorandum of Obligation for the SCO membership of Belarus. He also expressed India’s intent to further deepen people-to-people ties with Eurasia, drawing upon its ancient cultural and political connections.
