1.Valli chunai: HIDDEN SPOTS OF KANNIYAKUMARI
It is located at Kumarakovil (a small village). It is present at the top of the hill ,a best place for trecking. It takes 1 hour to reach the destination from kumarakovil. History shows that that Lord Muruga married Valli at this spot. It is named after the Goddess Valli (wife of Muruga). This hill is named as ‘Velimalai’ (Veli-malayalam word means ‘marriage’). It is found in the Western Ghats of Kannyakumari. The trembling sound of waterfalls and the stunning view of the atmosphere takes a man to the heaven.
2.Marunthu Kottai Fort:
This fort was build during the period of the King Bala Marthanda Varma in his ruling period of 1729 to 1758.This fort is located at a height of 895 feet aabove the sea level. It has two doors ,the large door has the height of 5 feet and 3 feet width. There is a stone mandapam inside tha fort. During ancient times,it is used to treat the wounded soldiers and to manufacture and store gunpowder. From this fort,we can see the enchanting beauty of the nature and the stunning beauty of the Pandmanabhapuram. This fort belongs to the time period of the Venadu kings. King Bala Marthanda Varma illustrated by an European General ‘Delaney’ constructed this fort .
3.Karumparai:
The enchanting Karumparai falls is located in keeriparai. Pazhayar river falls as the karumparai falls. It is at the 32 kilometers distance from the kannyakumari and 25 kilometers from Nagercoil. It is a great place for family and friends. It is situated inside a forest. A best place for bird watching. The scenery of this forest makes everyone peaceful. The water is very clean ,it is also considered as a place for relaxation. Near the falls,there is a small temple dedicated for the Goddess Kali.
4.Periyakadu:
It is a beach sided area. A church called St. Antony’s church present there. A history says that once a furious attack of sea was happened , fishereman’s could not able to come back, at that time a prayer was held at St. Antony’s church , due to the prayer , the god allowed the fisherman to return back to their village.
During festival times , many people used to visit this place and get the blessings of St. Antony. At morning 7am you can buy fresh fish there. The beach is little bit dangerous as the sand goes in a slanding position with dangerous curves. The door of the ocean is calm. It is a beautiful spot with lots of broken seashells. It is best place to see sunrise and sunset.
5.Kodhayar:
It is located on the kodhayar on the river. A dam crosses the river named Kodhayar dam. It has breathtaking views. It is surrounded by mountains. There is a temple located there .It is also famous for temple located and for its natural beauty. It is also surrounded by a dense forest. It offers plenty of opportunities like trecking , nature working , hiking and so on. There is a small waterfall near the kodhayar. It has the length of 28/800 kilometer. The extension is also located in Tirunelveli district. The extension is made in the year 1970. Hydroelectric plants are erected on the Kodhayar river . The kodhayar dam is constructed in the year 1964.
