Earthquake hits Delhi: A 5.4-magnitude earthquake rocked Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, causing tremors to ripple through Delhi and other parts of northern India.

The quake, which occurred 30 km southeast of Kishtwar, was felt as far away as Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Punjab, and all the surrounding areas. National Center for Seismology director Dr OP Mishra reported that the aftershock may be of a lesser magnitude than the main shock.

Residents of Srinagar described the quake as an alarming experience, saying that it had scared school children and caused people inside shops to rush outside in fear.

The Epicenter of the Earthquake and its Impact

The epicenter of the quake was located 99 km north of Pathankot, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center. In the wake of the quake, the India Meteorological Department issued an advisory. Urging people to remain vigilant and stay indoors if possible.

The earthquake also caused widespread panic in other parts of the country. People in Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, and Punjab reported feeling the tremors.
